Stoma Shield

The stoma shield was designed on commission. The client was an elderly individual whose bladder was removed for medical reasons. He was interested in a shield that allowed protection for his stoma, but still gave him the flexibility to continue practicing various athletic activities, including training competitive martial artists. The prototype was designed in both PLA and ABS plastic and manufactured through a 3D printer. The perforations on the outer shell are designed to allow airflow to avoid overheating the stoma. The tab on the upper part of the shell and the long notch on the bottom of the shell were designed to allow the stoma shield to comfortably rest on various types of the user’s pants. On either side of the shield there are small chambers with a small slot system. The purpose of these chambers is to allow a stoma belt to be secured onto the shield. This design is now patent pending and planning to be mass produced by the client.
